The Weeknd - Hurry Up Tomorrow

The Weeknd’s ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’ Dominates Charts with Record-Breaking Debut

The Weeknd’s latest release, Hurry Up Tomorrow, crashed the charts in its first week of release in an unprecedented way.

The album is projected to move between 350,000 to 375,000 units, marking The Weeknd’s most significant opening to date. This achievement not only surpasses his previous releases but also sets a new benchmark in the industry.

This marks his fifth consecutive studio album to top the ARIA Album chart, following Beauty Behind The Madness (2015), Starboy (2016), After Hours (2020), and Dawn FM (2022). His 2021 greatest hits collection, The Highlights, which peaked at No. 2 in 2021, also sees a boost this week, rising to No. 8.

‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’ also simultaneously reached the top position on Apple Music in 95 countries. The Weeknd became the first artist to have an album simultaneously reach number one on US iTunes and Apple Music on its release day in 2025. The album generated 58.37 million streams in the first 24 hours after release, the highest Spotify debut in 2025.

Tesfaye said about the album, “This project is deeply personal. It’s a reflection of everything I’ve experienced as The Weeknd and where I see myself going next. I wanted to create something that feels like an ending, but also a new beginning.”

‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’ might be the culmination of the persona that changed the soundscape of R&B and Pop over the last decade. The Canadian superstar, born Abel Tesfaye, has been hinting at retiring his famous alias, and this release feels like a fitting finale to his genre-blurring career.

Tesfaye previously talked about moving on from his Weeknd moniker, telling W Magazine last year, “I’m going through a cathartic path right now. It’s getting to a place and a time where I’m ready to close The Weeknd chapter.” If this album is his swan song under the name, he’s making sure it’s a send-off to remember.

If this ends up being the end of The Weeknd’s name, he’s definitely going out with a bang. He recently announced the film Hurry Up Tomorrow, set to drop on May 16. Starring Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan alongside Abel himself, the movie promises to be a surreal visual journey that complements the album’s narrative.

As the numbers continue to climb and the accolades pour in, one thing is clear: The Weeknd’s latest offering is moving the culture forward.
