After nearly four years behind bars, Atlanta’s own YFN Lucci, born Rayshawn Lamar Bennett, has returned to the free world, ready to reclaim his throne in the rap game.
On January 31, 2025, the 33-year-old rapper was released from Georgia’s Burruss Correctional Training Center, greeted by the warm embrace of family and close friends.
Lucci’s journey through the legal system has been a tumultuous one. In 2021, Lucci and 11 others faced a slew of charges, including racketeering and murder, tied to the alleged Bloods gang. However, 12 out of 13 charges were dropped in a plea deal, leaving him to plead guilty to a single count under Georgia’s Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act. This agreement led to a 20-year sentence, split evenly between prison time and probation. Thanks to time already served, Lucci found himself eligible for early release.
Freedom, however, comes with strings attached. As part of his parole conditions, Lucci is prohibited from possessing firearms and must obtain permission before leaving the State. Additionally, he is required to live with his mother and undergo regular drug testing. These terms are set to remain in place until January 2031.
Despite these conditions, Lucci’s spirit remains intact. In a heartfelt statement, he expressed profound gratitude to those who stood by him during his incarceration.
“I’ve learned a lot during my time away,” YFN Lucci said in a statement. “I’m incredibly grateful for my family and friends—who have stood by me the whole time. Now, it’s my turn to give back. I want to use my voice, my platform, and my music to inspire those who look up to me. I want to show people it’s never too late to make a change. For me, this time is about growth, redemption, and purpose. I’m excited—there’s so much more to come.”
The reunion with his family was emotional and heartfelt. Videos circulating online show Lucci stepping out of a vehicle and immediately being surrounded by his children and loved ones.
As he reintegrates into society, Lucci is looking to forge ahead. With plans to plunge back into his music career and aspirations to venture into acting, he’s poised to turn his story into one of redemption and growth. His label, Think It’s A Game Records, echoed this sentiment, highlighting his strength and unwavering dedication to his craft.
The journey of redemption begins now, and the hip hop community waits to see the next chapter unfold for the man behind “Everyday We Lit.”
