Vybz Kartel Drops Anniversary Album Featuring New Music

Vybz Kartel, the undisputed World Boss, makes his triumphant return with the release of the Viking (Vybz Is King), a 10th Anniversary album. This special edition project revisits the iconic tracks from the 2015 original release and introduces seven fresh songs, marking Kartel’s first studio recordings since his discharge in July 2024 from prison.

The anniversary album blends past hits and new bangers. Fans can vibe to classics like “Unstoppable,” “Enchanting,” “Gon Get Better” (sampled by pop group Fifth Harmony), and “Dancehall” (retitled “Dancehall Cyah Stall”), while diving into new tracks that range from spiritual reflections in “God Is The Greatest” to the fiery collaboration “Porn Flick,” featuring Ishawna. The party anthem “STR8 Vybz,” named after Kartel’s new rum brand, is already setting dancehall on fire.

Kartel reflected on this milestone, saying, “This album is special because we are celebrating many milestones. We are recognizing the impact of the Viking album 10 years later, and then my ability to create new music for the first time since I have been out.” He also added, “It’s a full circle moment, and like I said on the first track, ‘God Is The Greatest.’”

The anniversary album follows Vybz Kartel’s welcome-home concert. On December 31, 2024, Kingston’s National Stadium witnessed history as Kartel took the stage for the first time in 13 years for the Freedom Street Concert. The event, produced by Downsound Entertainment, was nothing short of legendary. Kartel delivered a performance that fans will remember for years. The night was elevated by a star-studded lineup of guest performers, including the Hop-hop icon Busta Rhymes, Warlord Bounty Killer, Dancehall’s reigning queen Spice, the Unruly Boss Popcaan, “Crocodile Teeth” hitmaker Skillibeng, Ghana’s Shatta Wale, Tommy Lee Sparta, Chronic Law, Shawn Storm, and Masicka. The show also featured a laundry list of artists from Vybz’s Gaza camp, including Jah Vinci, Rvssian, Lisa Hyper, Sheba, Gaza Indu, and Kartel’s own sons, Likkle Addi & Likkle Vybz.

The night was a testament to Kartel’s worldly influence and the unity within the dancehall community. As fireworks lit up the Kingston sky at midnight, Kartel led the crowd in Jamaica’s national anthem, symbolizing a new chapter in his storied career.

With the new album out and the monumental concert behind him, Vybz Kartel is not just back; he’s laying the groundwork for the future of dancehall. As fans await the results of his first-ever Grammy nomination for the EP Party With Me, one thing is clear: The World Boss will have dancehall speakers knocking worldwide.
